The 2015 flagships have made their debut with overall spec improvement as usual and some interesting new features to add on. After Samsung, HTC and other big guns LG had decided to unveil their offering for 2015 with the G4. Xiaomi had announced the new lineup with high end phablet sized beasts ohhh Mi Note and Mi note pro. Let's bet down the Mi Note pro and LG G4 to see what they both have to impress you.
Build and design
With 2015 flagships we expect me design that sooths your eyes and turns heads around. Xiaomi has decided to go all glass and again following similar design as iPhone 6. The Mi Note pro has a all glass body with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covering both sides. We are happy that xiaomi had done a great job here and the metal chassis with glass body has a beautiful look. 3D curved glass on the back, 2.5D curved glass on front. The glass body feels nice and smooth but it may be a fingerprint scanner. The aluminum and glass makes this a piece of art with beautiful design.
The LG G4 has similar design to that of G3 from last year but with new premium feel. LG have used premium leather on the back with same plastic option also. The volume and power button are placed on the back as before on G3. The back has nice curve and squarer corners. G4 has very thin bezels but it is a big phone with 5.5" screen. Both phones are huge but the curve and rounded edges must help you out. The glass and metal finish on the Mi Note is a real upgrade over the LGs leather/plastic.
Display
To go with similarities both displays are Quad HD displays and that all.The Mi Note is stuffed with 5.7 " 2K display from sharp/JDI with nifty little added features. It has special sunlight visibility which we saw on Mi4i and the brightness level has been raised than normal level above 500 nits. The display is gorgeous and will surely show all the lille details with pitch perfect clarity. It has NEGA LCD panel that comes with power saving tech and better contrast ratio.
LG had built a special display for the G4 called the quantum display. It's a 2k( 1440 x 2560) panel with higher brightness levels and contrast ratio. The 5.5 inch display is brighter, power efficient and produces more accurate colors. The display is a real and much accepted upgrade. The display is visible even in bright sunlight. It's the best display along with the Samsung's S6.
Processor and performance
Starting with the note pro, Xiaomi has decided to go with Snapdragon 810 though the were claims of heating issues which company claims to have solved. What's interesting is that xiaomi says that it uses a newer version of the processor with v2.1 sick comes with higher clock speed and better overall performance and heat management. Xiaomi also posted pics of benchmarks that show some serious performance atleast on paper. The cpu is a cluster of 4 Cortex a57 cores @ 2.2 GHz and 4 Cortex A53 @ 1.5 GHz along with adreno 430 GPU. If the cousins are real we have a serious performer here. The phones also couples a faster LPDDR4 4gb RAM which is the latest and best RAM standard for mobile phones, 70% faster and 35% more expensive than LPDDR3.
LG G4 had decided to tackle heating issues by selecting snapdragon 808 which is the chipset with low performance compared to the 810. Snapdragon 808 is a hexa-core(6) cluster with 2 Cortex @57 and 4 Cortex @53. It has adreno 418 gpu. But it seems that LG wanted the users to have a issue free phone with optimal performance. The phone and to have good optimization. It doesn't lag like it was on g flex 2,but isn't as snappier as HTC M9 or S6. It couples with 3 gigs of LPDDR3 RAM. The Xiaomi seems to be a powerhouse if it's claims of optimizations and newer version is true.
Camera
Xiaomi boasted several features in the Note pro camera which puts it above others. The snapper is a 13MP Sony sensor with OIS and a dual tone dual LED flash . It also seems to have new 14-bit image processing from Qualcomm. There are many software feature added to the camera app in the miui. The images taken is really good and color reproduction is pretty nice. The OIS seems to do a good job. The HDR processing also does perfectly nice job to keep the image natural and beautiful. Xiaomi has greatly impressed with their camera here. The front camera is a 4mp sensor with large 2-micron pixels, exceptional low-light performance.
LG built the G4 on its camera which it boasted in its teasers. The main highlight feature is the new 16MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture that helps to absorb more light. LG also says that the OIS is the new and improved one with new system of axis that helps in some stellar photography. It also had laser auto focus from the g3 with a new color spectrum sensor that helps to absorb accurate colors based on the scene. The results are great and LG seems to be well aimed to replacing your DSLR with the g4. Images taken are sharp and detailed, with accurate color and balanced exposure. LG has equipped the G4 with new camera app that comes with manual modes and lots and lots of features for some serious photography. There's a 8mp sensor at the front which comes without a gesture feature that helps you to take selfie with hand gestures.
Software
Xiaomi has their MIUI built on top of lollipop 5.0 which comes which loads of features and a complete makeup. Miui has tons of features for any users to expose. Xiaomi has done new changes in MIUI to support 2k display of the Mi note pro and use its large 5.7" screen.
One-Handed Operations, Full Control Over Fonts and Arrangement, Smart Age Detection and Beautify, Smart Home Control on Lock Screen and lots more are added new over existing features. Xiaomi plans to add new features in future to use its large screen.
LG on the other hand has also revamped their UI with new lg ux 4.0. It's based on lollipop 5.1 with material design and same large ugly icons and LG design as on g3. LG UI is not that great when compared to custom skins like miui or sense UI. But what lg has best is the features list which keep on growing with each phone is really a great add on. If lg would work on the UI LG's skin would have been great. The camera app has many features and controls that help to use its great camera at the back.
Battery, storage and other features
Xiaomi has a generous 3090maH battery with Quick charge: 70% charged within 1 hour. It's non user replaceable. This should take you easily through a day of usage. Xiaomi didn't do that well with Mi4 because of the screen. It has 64GB internal storage and No sd card support. It though comes with a dual SIM dual 4g support. Xiaomi has built in Hardware-optimized HiFi audio for FLAC playback chip that should produce great sound with their new earphone.
LG has stuffed 3000mah which can easily take you upto a day and may last 2 days too depending on your usage. The battery optimization done by LG is great and we would loved it to have a wireless or quick charging which seems missing. It's user replaceable. It comes with 1watt amplifier as the g3 with better sounds. There's again an optional leather back cover which comes for an extra price tag.
Overall Mi note pro is solidly built phone. Has a great display and a faster processor. The Mi Note pro is priced at $470 price tag. LG has awesome display, best camera and long lasting battery for a price of around $650.
