ZTE Nubia Z9 may come with 8 GB RAM

The ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to be unveiled by May 6th which is soon to arrive, we have seen some rumors like their are very less to no display i.e. bezel less display.  Today ZTE Nubia Z9 was certified by TENAA, which actually is FCC's equivalent in China.

The phone specs may be by mistake, or may be the phone is the most powerful handset that we have seen till now.

The Nubia Z9 has following specs according to TENAA
  • 8.9mm thick
  • 5.15-inch
  • 1080 x 1920 resolution
  • 3.5GHz octa-core CPU
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 16 MP rear camera
  • 8 MP front camera
  • 3000 mAh Battery
For mobiles we haven't got a 3.5 Ghz processor and hence it may be a typo getting a 2.5 Ghz octa core chipset, while for the RAM it being a 3 GB or 4 GB which we have seen till now !!

Let us wait for a few more days to look forward with thr beast.

Specs: LG G4

Cyanogen breaks their deal with OnePlus to focus on other Manufacturers

OnePlus One when was launched came with an exclusive custom variant to the phone which is CyanogenMod 11S it was based on Kitkat 4.4 but it was an exclusive customization over the normal CyanogenMod 11 which was denoted by S behind the 11 making it 11S and same went with the Android 5.0 Lollipop variant from Cyanogen the CyanogenMod 12 which was too customized for OnePlus and even Yu Yureka by Micromax.

OnePlus One was known for its customization options that came with Cyanogen's operating system, but the phone was too itself capable to make a hype. Cyanogen made a partnership in India with Micromax which lead OnePlus to develop Oxygen OS for its smartphones, the Oxygen OS was released just earlier this month.

Cyanogen break their deal with OnePlus to move forward with other Chinese brands making them available worldwide. Cyanogen's CEO Kirk McMaster strongly believes that if it weren't for the Cyanogen name, OnePlus would not have enjoyed a successful first year of operations. Executive says,
"Without Cyanogen, OnePlus would have sold like one device in international markets, Essentially they built their brand on the back of Cyanogen."
The statement by Cyanogen doesn't falls good because they literally think that OnePlus is because their operating system, which to our feel is not a correct statement given by Cyanogen. As for OnePlus, the focus is now on producing updates for its OxygenOS. Cyanogen looks like that will provide support for the 12S Android 5.0 operating system, but they will not launch the next build for OnePlus One.

Microsoft Lumia phones face an import ban in the US over patent issue

The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has said in a ruling that Microsoft's Lumia series phones infringe on a pair of patents belonging to InterDigital. Microsoft lost the lawsuit and faces a ban on the import of Lumia Windows Phone handsets in the country.

InterDigital Inc. had claimed that Microsoft violated its wireless patents by using its technology in its Lumia devices without permission. The lawsuit was filed against Nokia earlier, in which Nokia was cleared. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the ruling and since Microsoft acquired Nokia's devices division, it had to face the music in court yesterday. If Microsoft does not manage to successfully appeal against this ruling, it could face a ban on the import of its handsets into the US.

According to Reuters, ITC judge Theodore Essex has ruled that "Microsoft infringed on two wireless cellular patents owned by InterDigital". He further ruled that it would "not be against the public interest to ban the Microsoft devices from import into the United States".

Microsoft can import devices until The ITC comes to a conclusion before the end of August.
This could turn turn out to be a major blow to the Redmond-based technology giant, given its plans to launch Windows 10 based Lumia devices this year.

LG G4 launched with new camera and retro leather back

The new LG G4

As announced, LG has launched their next flagship the LG G4 at launch events that were held simultaneously in London and New York.
The phone has specs that are in line with the latest flagships from competitors. The phones seems to be camera-centric with many new features added to the in-house camera module.
LG has mainly focused on design, display and camera in their launch event held in London and New York.

The specs of the LG G4 are as follows:
  • 5.5" QHD quantum display
  • Hexa-core Snapdragon 808
  • 3 GB RAM
  • 32 GB internal storage with microSD card slot
  • 16MP f1.8 OIS camera
  • 8 MP front camera
  • 3000 mAh replaceable battery
  • Wireless charging
  • LG UX4.0 (based on Android 5.1 Lollipop)
  • Retro leather back

The specs may seem quite usual for 2015 flagship but what LG is offering here is quite amazing.
It's the finest details that LG has improved rather than just stuffing with high specs. The display is a new QHD display which boasts 20% wider color reproduction, 25% improvement in brightness and 50% higher contrast over the G3. LG have employed vegetable tanning for the Leather back cover, which is typical of the luxury leather industry. The phone has a slight arc to its chassis and a soft-touch rear that sets it apart from rival Android smartphones. The power button is again located at the back, which is difficult to get used to but does enhance single-handed use.

The camera is capable of taking highly professional photos with the new updated camera app that gives you complete control of the camera hardware. It has new sensor to help with better photography.
LG has gone for Snapdragon 808 chipset rather than 810 which is present on the G Flex 2 mainly because of heating problems. The Snapdragon 808 is a hexa-core chip with four Cortex A-53 and two A-57 cores.

The new interface has been given a complete overhaul with the Android material design implementation on top of LG's UX 4.0. There are many features included as before which comes quite handy. LG has provided expandable storage on the G4, which is lacking in most of the flagships today, and is sure to be lauded by consumers.

The G4 is expected to retail around $700 and a $100 extra for the leather back one.
What do you think of LG's new flagship?

Is this the Post-PC era? Apple's Quarterly revenue figures say otherwise

When Apple introduced the iPad in 2010, tech experts hailed it as the dawn of the Post-PC era. Tablet sales have been seeing a continuous rising trend ever since, for the Cupertino-based tech giant, and in 2011 tablet sales surpassed Macbook sales.
Many have been discusing about when PCs would be dead. However, the latest sales figures for Apple paint an entirely different picture. Apple is earning more from Macbooks than from iPads.

Apple registered a revenue of $5.6 billion from Macbook sales in the last quarter, while iPad revenue was $5.4 billion. In terms of number of devices, the company sold 12.6 million iPads and 4.5 million Macbooks in the quarter. The sales figure indicate that we are not quite in the "Post-PC" era yet. Further, iPad sales have been decreasing in the last few quarters. The decrease may be attributed to the tablet refresh cycle being longer than smartphones for consumers. Also, last year saw more competitors entering the foray with top-notch tablets.

An impressive YOY growth rate of 10% for Apple Macbook sales have helped the PC surpass iPad sales. In fact Macbooks are one of the few PC brands that have been witnessing growth in recent years. Most manufacturers are facing declining sales for their PCs.

Apple Products line-up

Apple today revealed its quartetly earnings for the quarter ending March 28th.
Total revenue: $58 billion
Net Profite : $13.6 billion
iPhones sold : 61.1 million
iPads sold : 12.6 million
Macs sold : 4.5 million

Apple CFO, Luca Maestri said, "The tremendous customer demand for our products and services in the March quarter drove revenue growth of 27 percent and EPS growth of 40 percent.” He added, “Cash flow from operations was also outstanding at $19.1 billion."

Samsung's Exynos Mongoose custom CPU cores - 45% faster than A57

What is different about Samsung from other smartphone manufacturers? The South Korean giant produces a majority of its smartphone components in-house, including processors. We have seen the Exynos 7420 in the Samsung galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the processor has reported exceptional performance, better than any Qualcomm or Mediatek chipset. The Exynos 7420 is based on Cortex A53 and A57 cores.
Now there are reports pointing towards the development of a custom core CPU design going on at Samsung.

The new chip is being hailed as Samsung Mongoose is built on an entirely different architecture and provides about 45% better single-core performance compared to the Exynos 7420. These new 64-bit chips would have clock speeds up to 2.3 GHz and will be based on ARM v8 instruction set. Further, the chips would be manufactured using the 14nm FinFET technology, same as the Exynos 7420.The first Mongoose chip, allegedly called the Exynos M1, might utilize a Heterogenous System Architecture.

The first set of Mongoose chips are likely to enter production in the next 9 to 12 months, as reports suggest. Samsung would be double careful with the chips, after the problems being faced by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset.
If all goes well, we might get to see the new chipset on next year's flagship, the Galaxy S7.

Cyanogen OS 12 rolling out again for OnePlus One with "OK OnePlus" and bug fixes

Cyanogen Inc had pulled the development of CyanogenMod 12S for the OnePlus One to add the "OK OnePlus" feature. The update is now ready and starting to roll out to OnePlus One users, but it turns out the pause for for more than just the one feature.

OnePlus' Steve Kondik said on the forum,
"the reasons why we stopped the initial rollout are because of a problem updating encrypted devices from 11 to 12, and a couple of bugs that we felt were critical enough to fix before continuing (mms/telephony/themes). We also had an error in our production build environment that broke voice wakeup."
Steve further added that the team is working on :
  1. Rolling out the new bugfixed update to users already on CM12
  2. Resuming rollout to users still on CM11 tomorrow (it's late here). You'll actually first see a small 8MB update which will prepare the device for the real update (required if you are encrypted), this will immediately be followed by the new CM12 update.

He mentioned that while rolling out OTAs, it is difficult to account for devices that are not running fully stock versions, and they have to closely monitor diagnostics data. Lastly, he added,
"It's perfectly safe to sideload the build onto your device even if you're encrypted."
So if you have a OnePlus One, go ahead and get yourself the update now!

Xiaomi Mi4i Hands On

Xiaomi Mi4i
Xiaomi launched the Mi4i at the event yesterday in Delhi and we have been able to get a brief hands-on of the phone through a helpful friend. If the Mi4 looks like the iPhone 5/5S, then the Mi4i resembles the iPhone 5C. Xiaomi has included a protection on the screen of the Mi4i that is with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that was absent on the Mi4.

The phone gives a good in-hand feel and the touch responsiveness is excellent, just like on the Mi4. The black and white colored variants sport a matte finish, while other colors have a glossy finish similar to that on the Mi4. It's good to see matte options since the Mi4 was very slippery. The back has a unique anti-grease coating, which means you can clean most stains and marks easily. The metal keys are sturdy and provide good tactile feedback.

The display is beautiful, same as that on the Mi4, with excellent viewing angles. It has what Xiaomi calls "Sunlight Display" that improves readability significantly. You can see a demonstration of it in the video below.

The device runs the new  MIUI v6 based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop however we were not able to explore its features. he Mi4i is Xiaomi's first device to run Android Lollipop.

Talking about the phone, the phone is aggressively at INR 12,999. And that would make it a worthy competitor to the Yu Yureka, Moto G and the recently released Asus Zenfone 2.

Due to the rush at the event, it was not possible for us to get a proper video, but we were able to record a short hands-on of the device along with some pictures. Take a look at the video here (Video credits : Arpit Gagrani)

We will get you a full review of the device soon.
