First of all, this is not a Fool's Day prank.
Do you remember the good'ol days of dir/p and copy *.* ? Yes we're talking about the 16-bit command line based operating system found on yesteryear PCs. Microsoft has released the MS-DOS Mobile app on the Windows Phone marketplace as a part of an April Fool's Day prank.
The app provides an x86 processor emulation so that you can use most of the commands that were available on the original MS-DOS. Type in DIR to get a list of available apps and CD to enter into a folder. You can even launch apps such as Phone, Contacts, Messages and Settings, Camera with a simple command. You can access the camera.exe located in Programs folder that will let you take an ASCII selfie ! How cool is that ! Type in WIN at any point and you can experience Windows 3.1
One amusing thing to do would be to try FORMAT C: , which thankfully doesn't wipe out your phone, courtesy of Cortana.
You can use HELP to discover all available commands.
Tom Messett, Global Director of Marketing at Microsoft Mobile calls it "A bold step forward", and adds "Black and White text has never looked so good" in the prank video.
Go check out the nostalgic OS on your Lumia phone!
